Avaneeswaram S. R. Vinu was born on June 10, 1973, in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. He hails from a family deeply rooted in music. His father, Avaneeswaram N. Ramachandran, served as the principal of RLV Music College, Thrippunithura, and his mother, Smt. Sahithidevi, supported his early musical aspirations. Vinu's grandfather, Avaneeswaram K. Krishna Pillai, was a renowned Nadaswaram artist.
Vinu began his violin training at the age of six under the tutelage of his father. He further honed his skills under Prof. Kilimanoor Thyagarajan and later became a disciple of the eminent violinist Mysore M. Nagaraj from 1992 to 1997.
