Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos is an upcoming American animated television series produced by Avatar Studios, serving as a prequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender focusing on the life of Avatar Kuruk in his teenage years. Announced at New York Comic-Con 2026, it is the fourth series in the Avatar Legends franchise and will be helmed by Avatar co-creator Bryan Konietzko.[1]

Setting

Premise

Three generations before Avatar: The Last Airbender, the series follows a young teenage Kuruk who was chosen to the be the next Avatar in a globetrotting journey with his angry teacher against rowdy pirates and chaotic spirits, all while helping the world in his own unique way.

Background

Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos is set in the fictional world of The Last Airbender, belonging to 5 nations: the Northern Water Tribe and the Southern Water Tribe in the poles; the Earth Kingdom covers most of the massive continent; the Fire Nation is a volcanic archipelago in the west; and the monastic Air Nomads inhabit mountainous temples across the globe.

The distinguishing aspect of the series is "bending", the ability of some people to telekinetically manipulate one of the classical elements associated with their nation or heritage (water, earth, fire, or air). There are also non-benders in each of these nations. Bending is carried out by spiritual and physical exercises, portrayed as similar to Chinese martial arts. Only one person, the Avatar, can bend all four elements. They have an ancient spirit inside them, called Raava, which is the force of light and peace, and as such, the Avatar wields exception bending abilities, including the apotheotic Avatar State. The Avatar is the bridge between the Human World and the Spirit World, and is tasked with maintaining peace and balance in the world using their powers and wisdom. Avatar Wan is the first-ever Avatar, and has since cyclically reincarnated among the world's four nations non-stop. A mature Avatar is able to access the memories and skills of the previous Avatars and is able to communicate with them.

Cast and Characters

  • Avatar Kuruk: a 14 year old rebellious teenager before he lived in a time of relative peace and stability as the Avatar with a self-described "go-with-the-flow" personality.
