Avataro Sentai Donbrothers (暴太郎戦隊ドンブラザーズ Abatarō Sentai Donburazāzu, "Violent Tarō Squadron Don Brothers") is an upcoming Japanese tokusatsu drama, the 46th entry in Toei's long-running Super Sentai franchise, and the third in the Reiwa period.[lower-alpha 1] This drama is inspired by the Japanese folktale of Momotarō and serves as a direct sequel to preceding series Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, also paying tribute to the previous installments of the franchise. Joining Kamen Rider Revice in the Super Hero Time line-up, Avataro Sentai Donbrothers will premiere on March 6, 2022, on TV Asahi.[1][2][3]
Prior to Donbrothers's premiere, one of the series' protagonists, Don Momotaro, makes a cameo appearance in the 42nd episode of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger as a means of connecting the two series.[1][2][4]

Donbrothers[edit]
The titular Donbrothers team utilize the Don Blaster (ドンブラスター Don Burasutā) firearm and Avataro Gears (アバタロウギア Abatarō Gia) to transform into forms based on the characters of the Momotarō folktale,[5][6] in a fashion similar to the Zenkaigers' Sentai Gear system.[1] Like the Sentai Gears, the Avataro Gears also have special gears based on their Super Sentai predecessors,[3] allowing them to Avatar Change into a past Sentai's form.[7]
- Taro Momoi: Found in a peach-shaped capsule as a baby and raised by Jin, Taro is 21 years old and lives alone, working part-time as a courier. He transforms into the red-colored leader of the team, Don Momotaro (ドンモモタロウ Don Momotarō).[1][5][6] During combat, he wields the Zanglassword (ザングラソード Zangura Sōdo) as his side weapon.[8] He also possesses the Enya Rideon (エンヤライドン En'ya Raidon) superbike.[1][9][10][3]
- Shinichi Saruhara: An intelligent and reliable young man who is the brains of the team.[5] Shinichi is 21 years old and transforms into the blue-colored Saru Brother (サルブラザー Saru Burazā) who possesses super-human strength.[1][5][6]
- Haruka Kito: A high-schooler and aspiring manga artist who works part-time at the Donbura coffee shop and lives with her aunt, Haruka is 17 years old and transforms into the yellow-colored Oni Sister (オニシスター Oni Shisutā).[1][5][6] During combat, she wields a kanabō as her side weapon and relies on tricks to outsmart her enemies.[11][5][6]
- Tsubasa Inuzuka: A runaway from the police who is looking for the real culprit of the crime he is being accused to prove his innocence.[5] Tsubasa is 24 years old and transforms into the black-colored, diminute Inu Brother (イヌブラザー Inu Burazā).[5][1][6] During combat, he wields a giant shuriken as his side weapon and possesses enhanced agility.[11][5][6]
- Tsuyoshi Kijino: An ordinary married salaryman, Tsuyoshi is 33 years old and transforms into the pink-colored, tall and thin Kiji Brother (キジブラザー Kiji Burazā), who is able to fly.[1][5][6]
Don Zenkaioh[edit]
Don ZenkaiOh (ドンゼンカイオー Don Zenkaiō) is a mecha formed by the combination of an enlarged Enya Rideon with Juran Tyranno. Its finisher is the Don Zenkai Crush (ドン・ゼンカイクラッシュ Don Zenkai Kurasshu).[3] It first appeared in episode 42 of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.[3]
Allies[edit]
- Kaito Goshikida: The mysterious owner of the Donbura (どんぶら) coffee shop, he is an alternate-universe version of Kaito Goshikida from Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, with a different personality. He transforms into Zenkaizer Black (ゼンカイザーブラック Zenkaizā Burakku) who uses a colorless version of the original Zenkaizer's suit with similar powers and equipment and occasionally assists the Donbrothers in battle.[5][6]
- Jin Momoi: Taro's adoptive father who has not aged at all since he picked him up. He is currently trapped into a virtual space, only able to communicate with others via holograms. He was the one who chose the other four members of the team to assist his son in battle.[5][6]
Noto[edit]
The Noto (脳人, lit. "Brain People") are three mysterious individuals who are the antagonists of the series.[5][6]
- Sonoi: A calm and collected man who enjoys watching paintings.[5][6]
- Sononi: A passionate woman insterested in the human society's love affairs.[5][6]
- Sonoza: A mentally unstable man interested in human emotions.[5][6]
Production[edit]
Avataro Sentai Donbrothers was first announced by Toei Company on December 22, 2021, in addition to the series' aforementioned status as a sequel to Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger.[1][2] The decision to do so is inspired by Queen Hedrian's appearance in Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan after previously appearing in Denshi Sentai Denjiman.[1][2] Toshiki Inoue is positioned as the main writer due to his previous success with Chōjin Sentai Jetman.[1][2]
A press conference was held in February 9, 2022 to introduce the cast members.[1] In addition to live-action characters, Inu Brother and Kiji Brother will be animated through a combination of computer graphics and motion capture due to their inhuman body proportions.[6][12] This is however not the case in outdoor stage shows, especially the Theater G-Rosso as they are portrayed with proper-scale suits.[7]
