Away team (Star Trek term)
In the Star Trek fictional universe, an away team is a term used by Starfleet for an extravehicular operation to another spacecraft or the surface of a planet.[1] The Operations Management Officer (Ops) helps to coordinate the away team.[2] The term was first used on Star Trek: The Next Generation to refer to what The Original Series called a landing party or a boarding party.[1][3] Away teams usually feature at least one "redshirt".
