Axel Andorff (Munich, 1973) is a German engineer in Mechanics and Economics. He was Executive Vice President of Research and Development of SEAT from March 2019 to June 2020.[1]

Career[edit]

He is an engineer in Mechanics and Economics from the University of Kaiserslautern (1999). Starting at Mercedes Benz, he has developed his professional career in the automobile sector, with different responsibilities in the areas of R&D and Purchasing. He was the creator and head of the Daimler Purchasing area in China. There he led the creation of a network of suppliers for the company.[2]

The first generation of Daimler's GLA, CLA and CLA Shooting Brake models were under his direction. Between 2014 and 2019 he was responsible for the architecture of “Concepts”, the electric and compact vehicle of Mercedes-Benz.[3]

In March 2019, he was appointed Executive Vice President of R&D at SEAT,[4] with the aim of reinforce future projects already launched and boosting  innovation with special emphasis on connectivity, vehicle electrification and mobility.[5]

As executive vice president of R&D, Andorff was member of the SEAT Board of Directors. He overseed the Design areas (where the brand's vehicles are conceptualized) and the SEAT Technical Center, the knowledge hub with more than 1,000 Engineers developing innovation for cars, and mobility solutions to the future.[6] From July 2020 is responsible for Midsize and MEB Product Line at ŠKODA.[7]
