Axel Villamil is a Canadian entrepreneur and choreographer. He is the founder of StageKeep, a movement planning platform developed during his time at the University of Toronto Scarborough.[1][2]
Early life and education
Villamil was born in Cambridge, Ontario, and is of Filipino descent.[3] He studied Computer Science and Media Studies at the University of Toronto.[4]
Career
While at the University of Toronto Scarborough, Villamil founded StageKeep, a software platform that allows choreographers and performers to digitally map and share formations.[5] The tool was supported by The Hub accelerator and later expanded to include artificial intelligence-based movement feedback.[6]
Villamil has spoken at TEDx[7] and has guest lectured at the University of Toronto on topics related to entrepreneurship and creative technology.[8] He has also served as a mentor in startup programs such as Techstars and the Founder Institute.[9]
Recognition
- In 2011, Villamil represented Canada at the IDO World Hip Hop Championships in Graz, Austria, placing 17th in the solo category.[10]
- In 2012, he received the Leading Edge Award from Arts Awards Waterloo Region.[11]
- He hosted an episode of the FBI's diversity and inclusion podcast in 2023.[12]
