Ayanga (Chinese: 阿云嘎; pinyin: Āyúngā, Mongolian: ᠠᠶᠤᠩᠭ᠎ᠠ, Cyrillic: Аянга; born October 23, 1989) is a Chinese musical theater actor, singer and songwriter of Mongolian ethnicity.[1]

Early life[edit]

Ayanga was born in the Ordos City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. His parents were sheep herders and died before he turned seven. He was raised by his older brother. He received education in Mongolian and spoke little Mandarin when he was young. He was sent to Ikezhao League Art School after his parents passed away. He was selected into the Song and Dance Troupe of Inner Mongolian PLA at the age of 14. He went to Beijing to pursue his dream in art and performance at the age of 17. He then studied at Beijing Dance Academy and majored in Musical Theater. After graduating from college, he joined the Beijing Opera and Dance Theater and became a musical theater actor and a singer.[2][3]

Career[edit]

In 2012, he starred in China's original musical Kunlun Myth (昆仑神话) with the theme of intangible cultural heritage Kunlun mythology, playing Sauran and Pangu.[4] In the same year, he starred in the original musical Tianqiao directed by Tian Yuxin, playing Lin Pengfei.[5] Recommended by Tian Xinxin, he joined the Beijing Song and Dance Theater as a solo actor after graduating from Beijing Dance Academy.[3]

In 2013, he participated in the musical Nasirdin Afandi[6] (阿凡提);[7] in the same year, he participated in the "The Third Inner Mongolia Young Singer TV Competition and won the first prize of popular singing. In 2014, he won the third prize of the “Wenhua Award” popular group in the national vocal competition [8]. In the same year, he participated in the Anhui TV's reality show Mr. Super (超级先生), which he won,[9] and the CCTV-3 music reality show Rising Star China (中国正在聽).[10]

In June 2015, he launched his personal single "Thank You";[11] on December 31 of the same year, he held a concert with the title "The Return of The Thunder God" (雷神归来) in Ordos City, which was his first personal concert since his debut.[12] He also participated in the musical The Legend (传奇)[13] and the History in the Song (歌声中的历史) gala.[14]

In February 2016, he participated in the CCTV New Year's Gala with Jiang Xin, Du Fu, Wu Yingwei and others.[15] In the same year, he co-starred with Chen Ruoxuan, Sun Xuening and Wang Bowen in the drama The Spirit.[16] In December of the same year, he held a concert with Tashi Dunzhu in CCTV.[17] In the same year, his first solo album Shartal Grassland (希拉草原) was released.[18]

In April 2017, he co-starred with Tan Weiwei's musical A Moment of Remembrance;[19] while in August, he starred in the musical My Bucket List.[20] His second personal concert was broadcast on CCTV-15.[21] In the same year, he also participated in several important occasions, including the closing ceremony of the 13th National Games;[22] the closing ceremony of the 26th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival and the Sino-Russian Artists Gala.

On February 25, 2018, Ayanga's had another concert broadcast on CCTV-15.[23] Later, he played Namuhai, the propaganda team captain in the TV series Father's Grassland Mother's River (父亲的草原母亲的河) directed by Kang Honglei.[24] In the same year, he participated in Hunan Television's music reality shows Super–Vocal and was one of the six final winners.[25] He also participated in the Hunan Television New Year's Eve party.

On February 4, 2019, he participated in the CCTV New Year's Gala and sang the song "Building a Chinese Dream Together".[26] Together with Zheng Yunlong, Frank Ju (Ju Hongchuan), and Cai Chengyi, he participated in Hunan Television's top music show Singer 2019 and became the 2nd runner up of the season.[27] He also participated in the second One Belt and One Road International Cooperation Summit Forum, and the 70th Anniversary National Arts Performance.
