Ayla Schwartz (born February 2, 2007) is an American actress. She played Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker and originated the role of young Elsa in Frozen.
Early life[edit]
Ayla Schwartz was born on February 2, 2007 in Montclair, New Jersey to mother Elaine. Schwartz began studying acting, singing and dancing at the age of four at Essex Youth Theatre.[1][2] Schwartz started attending tap dance classes at the age of four. Schwartz took her first voice lesson at the age of four at Modern Music Academy and continued to study there until the age of seven. At the age of five, she began studying at Performers Theatre Workshop.[3] As of 2018, Schwartz currently attends school. During rehearsals and previews of Frozen, Schwartz was tutored in the theatre.[4] At the age of eight, Schwartz began career coaching.[1]
Career[edit]
Schwartz began auditioning for roles at a young age. She received multiple callbacks but was never cast for a role. In early 2017, Schwartz was cast for her first professional role as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker. Schwartz recieved praise for her portrayal of the role. For example, QNS called her "flawless" and wrote that "if Tonys were given for Off-Broadway theater, Schwartz would win it by a landslide."[5] In 2017, Schwartz auditioned for the role of young Elsa in theFrozen, stage adaptation of the 2013 film of the same name. Schwartz received four callbacks before getting cast for the role.[3] Schwartz first performed at a Pre-Broadway tryout in Denver. On March 22, 2018, Schwartz began performing on broadway four days a week, sharing the role with Brooklyn Nelson.[4] The reception for the production was generally positive and Schwartz received praise. The Washington Post wrote that she and Mattea Conforti, who portrayed young Anna, were "exceptionally well cast",[6] BBC News called her "graceful"[7] and Limelight Magazine called her and Conforti "pitch perfect".[8]
