Ayman Hasan (born July 7, 1998), is a Syrian author, computer expert, and investor...[1] He has written two books telling the story of his life in Syria, becoming a refugee, and settling in Germany.
Early Life[edit]
Life in Syria[edit]
Hasan was born and grew up in Syria. He attended Al Manara School in Aleppo, studying computer science.[2][3]With the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War he was forced to make the decision to flee the country for his own safety, leaving behind three brothers and two sisters.[4][5] Underage and classified as an illegal immigrant, Hasan fled from country to country, unable to find asylum.[6]
After several months of travel, including a week in jail in Serbia[7][8], Hasan arrived in Dortmund in 2015 and was able to continue his education.[9] After learning German over about a six month period while attending school, he attained his secondary school diploma. Hasan then attended college in Leipzig and Berlin, earning a degree in computer science.[10]
Education[edit]
2004-2012 Al Manara School in Aleppo, Syria[2][3]
2015-2017 Highschool for Telecommuniction in Leipzig, German[10]
2017-2018 Technical University Berlin in Berlin, Germany, where he finished his Bachelor of Engineering Information Technology
Career[edit]
Information Technology[edit]
Before leaving Syria, Hasan worked for Syriatel AG as a cyber security expert[11]. While attending school in Germany, he worked in several IT security positions. He also worked as an AI researcher for T-Labs and Google Dublin[12]
In 2017, he founded Aylabs, an IT company specializing in research and development in the fields of artificial intelligence and autonomous driving, which worked in cooperation with Tesla and Google.[12]
In 2018, Hasan founded Aysolutions UG, an IT company which offers cyber security solutions.[12]
In 2019, Hasan founded Aycapital Investment Pty Ldt, an investment company which offers investment in the stock market and foreign exchange market.[12]
Author[edit]
In December of 2018, Hasan self published The Defector: Story of a Syrian Fate. A work of non-fiction, it recounts his story of living in Syria during the civil war, making the decision to leave, and the trials of his journey from Aleppo to Dortmund[13].
In August of 2019, Hasan's second book, HAIMAT: Niemand verlässt seine Heimat, es sei denn, sie ist das Maul von einem Hai, was published by Clavis Verlag. Though covering the same basic timeline, this second book was written separately in German. The title of the book, HAIMAT, is a play on the German word "Heimat", which translates to "homeland" and "Hai", the German word for shark. Translated into English, the title is Homeland: No One Leave His Homeland Unless He is in the Mouth of a Shark.[14] It noted by Jugendbuch critic Moritz Baumstieger that "it is a win that no ghostwriter has reduced Hasan's authenticity" [15]
In October 2019, Hasan appeared at the Frankfurt Book Fair and gave a reading of his book[16]
