Ayodhya Nath Pathak

Ayodhya Nath Pathak (1 January 1940 – 25 October 2013) was an officer of the Indian Police Service from the 1964 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre. He served as Director General of Police of Madhya Pradesh from January 1997 to March 1998.[1]

Career

Pathak held various key postings in Madhya Pradesh. In the 1980s, he served as Deputy Inspector General of the Gwalior range.[2] He became Director General of Police in early 1997 and served until March 1998.[1]

Anti-dacoity operations

While serving as DGP, Pathak announced intensified action against bandit gangs in the Chambal Valley. In December 1997, he reported that 30 criminals surrendered in northern Madhya Pradesh, including 25 with bounty notices against them.[3]

Awards

A 2018 judgement of the Jabalpur High Court recorded that Pathak was awarded four gallantry medals during his career.[4]

Death

Pathak died in Bhopal on 25 October 2013 after a prolonged illness at the age of 75.[1] His death was publicly condoled by political leaders, including BJP state president Narendra Singh Tomar, who credited him with helping reduce dacoit activity in the Chambal region.[5]
