Police career[edit]
As Superintendent of Police of Ramanathapuram he is credited to have started a scheme for aiding the family members of deceased police personnel. The scheme involves the creation of a fund created by small monetary contributions by members of the force in the event of a mortality amongst one of its members and handing over the money to the family of the deceased.[5]
Paramakudi Riots[edit]
On September 12, 2011, Senthilvelan was injured during the sensational Paramakudi Riots. The protesters indulged in large-scale violence and torched police vehicles. Police opened fire in self defence and to protect public property claiming the lives of seven rioters and leaving fifty injured.[6] The action of the police prompted the Justice K Sampath Commission of inquiry to look into the matter. The report exonerated the police personnel stating, “Had the police not resorted to firing to quell the savage mob, there would have been a far greater loss both to human lives and property. Also, the violence would have spread to other southern districts”.[7]
DVAC Raids[edit]
