Concept and development

Before the series was announced, BGYO described On Demand as a collection of stories built around different emotions.[10] During a press conference for the EP, Mikki Claver described its seven tracks as different stories in which listeners were the main characters and the members of BGYO their leading men.[10] Akira Morishita said that "Life's Too Short" suited the group's plan to present the material as a series of stories.[10]

Vertical On Demand later adapted "Life's Too Short", "Mean Girl", "Raindrop" and "Trono" into four separate short-form stories.[2] The episodes were designed for vertical viewing on smartphones, with ZEEN describing the project as a visual companion to the EP.[11]

In a Facebook post about the production, Boborol said that his first meeting with BGYO members Mikki Claver, Nate Porcalla and JL Toreliza also included writers Kristine Gabriel and Carmel Jacomille.[12]

Release and promotion

Vertical On Demand was announced on August 8, 2026, through a teaser introducing the members of BGYO as the leading men of the series.[1] The episodes were scheduled for release on the group's official YouTube channel every Wednesday at 7 p.m., beginning August 12.[1]

The series was released during the promotion of On Demand, which also included a mall tour with stops in several Philippine cities.[13] The series concluded with "Trono", starring Mikki Claver and Nate Porcalla alongside Kolette Madelo, completing its four-part run.[3]

Reception

Asian Entertainment and Culture viewed the vertical format as a natural fit for the Philippine market, linking it to the country's long-standing tradition of romance storytelling through pocketbooks and komiks.[13]

In its coverage of the finale, ZEEN contrasted the project with conventional music videos and noted that its episodic approach allowed BGYO to develop the songs through short narratives while presenting the members in different roles.[3]

German publication MikroDrama.de, which focuses on the microdrama format, noted that vertical short-form stories are particularly suited to younger mobile audiences and allow music groups to feature individual members in changing roles beyond their stage performances.[14]
