BODO CULTURAL HERITAGE
Bodo cultural heritage is perhaps the pioneer of all north-eastern cultural tradition. If we look back to its past we can easily find that more or less the bodo culture influenced all the cultural heritage of the rabha, miri, misimi, singfoo, naga, garo, arunachali and khasis.
Now if we say about cultural heritage we should guess all the folk dance, folk tales, folklore etc. Now to say about bodo culture we must remember various traditional items like bodo folk song (khoga methai), fables (solo batha), marriage ceremony (haba khuski), traditional worshipping (bathou bwrai), etc. In the field of songs and dances we find bagurumba dance, kherai dance (religious dance); bwisagu mwsanai (bihu dance); ronosali (war song); aaroz (prayer song); bardwi shikhla dance; na gurnai mwsanai (fishing song).
Bodo culture is mainly based on nature and folk activities prevailing the tremendous strength of its glorious past. All the elements have been collected from antique bodo society, kings and kingdoms enlarging its state boundary that's why there are some reference to bodo kings and kingdoms liked Dwimapuri (Dimapur), Burlung Buthur (The Brahmaputra), Hirimba puri a star in name of warrior Hirimba in bodo history and these are mentioned in bodo folk songs. In this way bodos have rich cultural tradition which have crept in our society.
In Assamese songs also we find many Bodo words used by some prominent singers like Dr. Bhupen Hazarika in his famous song bordoisila ne kakotor sila we find an attempt to define the word bordoisila. The word sifung is used in many lyrics by composers (sifung means flute).
So, we expect all concerned persons to explore the hidden jewels of bodo culture. Unfortunately, like in other languages bodo songs and dances have become scapegoat of remix with western unwanted quality forgetting our own beautiful identity. So, to save the bodo cultural heritage from these type of pollution we must be careful and seek advices from the senior literary persons and there should be a research on it as well as workshop which may help the new generation to know the origin bodo traditions more and more in correct way.
