BOOHER is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas fronted by former Zykos frontman and songwriter Michael Booher. Zykos was signed to Post-Parlo Records and released two LPs and one EP.[1] After Zykos broke up in 2008, Michael Booher continued working in local music as talent buyer for famous Austin venue Emo's.[2]
Michael formed his new band BOOHER using his own name as moniker and began to play with early performances as an official SXSX 2015 showcasing artist.[3] Their first major gig outside of Austin was at House of Blues in New Orleans with Uncle Lucius[4] in September 2015 while on tour to Hopscotch Festival.[5]
BOOHER continued to play locally in Austin for the next year, opening up for major acts like Megafauna, The Good Life, Mac DeMarco, STRFKR, Twinsmith and Quasi. During this time BOOHER recorded their debut LP entitled Funny Tears with Mike McCarthy (producer), known for his work with Spoon, Heartless Bastards and Patti Griffin.[6] Additional musicians on the album include Cursive drummer Cully Symington and guest vocal appearances by Okkervil River's Will Sheff and What Made Milwaukee Famous' Michael Kingcaid. The album is scheduled to be released during the summer of 2016.[7]
In March 2016 BOOHER released a surprise single that features the songs "Pick Up The Robot (Put The Robot Down)" with guest vocals by Will Sheff and previously unreleased b-side "I Doubt The End Is Near." It premiered on noted music website Brooklyn Vegan[8] and UK site Gold Flake Paint.[9] Later that month BOOHER made their second appearance as an official SXSW showcasing artist.[10] Their official showcase was praised as one of the best of the day by the Austin Chronicle.[11]
The current live iteration of BOOHER consists of Michael Booher as well as guitarist Doug Walseth, bassist Matt Roth, brass player Michael St Clair, guitarist Ben Lance, keyboardist/vocalist Bryce Clifford, and drummer/vocalist Bryan Leslie Roberts whose previous and current credits include bands such as White Denim, Mineral, The Gloria Record, Polyphonic Spree, A. Sinclair, What Made Wilwaukee Famous, and David Dondero among others.
