History[edit]

BVG was founded in 1991 by it’s current CEO, Iain Burgess.[5] The company began by producing wedding videos, later diversifying into video and software distribution in 1994.[6]On behalf of the BVG, Mr. Burgess has received several business awards, and Management Today ranked him as the 60th most successful entrepreneur in the UK in 2008.[5]

In 2003, BVG Group was featured on the ‘Fast Growth 50’ list for it’s third consecutive year in 2003.[6]

Summer 2015 saw the group secure a £10m equity injection from Business Growth Fund[7], after increasing their revenue by 70% and profits by 300% since 2010.[8][9] BGF commented they felt “... BVG is well positioned to undertake further growth organically and through acquisitions”.[10]

In the same year, BVG Group were listed in The Sunday Times ‘International Track 200’ list of British companies with the fastest-growing international sales.[11]

BVG Group acquired Rosimian Ltd in April 2016.[12] Rosimian LTD are one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of garden buildings in the UK, supplying retailers such as Argos and Tesco, through their subsidiary companies.[13]

To accommodate this growth, BVG announced an expansion of premises and the addition and 55 jobs.[14] A Welsh Government grant of £147,000 was offered towards BVG’s capital investment of £2m, to support the expansion of their operations in Brecon - as opposed to BVG utilising its spare capacity in it’s distribution centre near Skelmersdale.[15] Welsh Labour economy minister, Edwina Hart commented that BVG Group are “... a very important employer in the region”.[16]

Spring 2017 marked the latest acquisition for BVG Group in Branded Garden Products Ltd [17], and its subsidiary companies Thompson and Morgan [18][19] and Van Meuwen.

BVG has filed accounts for 12 months to 31 August 2017. Sales are up by £34m from £80m to £114m but profit reduced from £6.2m to £3.8m.[20]

BVG Group were the focus of a case study into newspaper reader offers carried out on Channel 4’s Supershoppers in 2017.[21]
