Badland Brawl is a freemium mobile strategy video game developed and published by Frogmind Games. The game combines elements from collectible card games, tower defense and multiplayer online battle arena, all in the BADLAND universe! The game was soft-launched in Finland for iOS on December 4, 2017.[1] Since then, the game has been released in 8 more countries.

Gameplay[edit]

In Badland Brawl, players are ranked by their total trophy count. Players level up by gaining experience points through donating and/or upgrading Clones and completing achievements.

Trophies are won or lost through multiplayer battles - a player wins a battle by destroying more towers than the opponent (each destroyed tower being represented as a 'gear').

There are 12 playing lands in total: Jungle Dawn , Jungle Noon, Jungle Dusk, Jungle Night, Canyon Dawn, Canyon Noon, Canyon Dusk, Canyon Night, Frozen Dawn, Frozen Noon, Frozen Dusk and Frozen Night, with each land corresponding to a certain trophy count range.

Clones[edit]

Playable units are represented as clones. Prior to each brawl (with the exception of the tutorial), players construct a party of eight clones which they use to attack and defend against their opponent's clones. At the start of each game, both players begin with four randomly chosen clones from their party of eight.[2]

Each clone costs a certain amount of mana to sling. Players start the battle with 5 mana, and one mana is replenished every 2.5 seconds (or 1.25 seconds in the final 60 seconds of the brawl and overtime), with a maximum of 10 mana at any one moment. Once a clone is played, a new clone is automatically drawn from the player's eight clone party.[3]

As of March 2018 there are 34 clones in the game, coming in three rarities: Primal, Evolved and Mythical, with Mythical being the rarest.[4]

Currency[edit]

There are currently two currencies in Badland Brawl: Gold and Gems. Gold is used to upgrade and buy new Clones. Gold can be obtained from Eggs, winning brawls and by donating Clones to tribemates. Gems are used to buy Eggs, Gold and to speed up Egg growing. Gems can be obtained by completing achievements, opening Ground and Gear Eggs and buying from Shop.

Eggs[edit]

When a player wins a brawl, they will obtain an Egg unless the player's egg slots are full. Eggs takes a certain amount of time to unlock, depending on the rarity of the chest; Silver Eggs take three hours to unlock, Golden Eggs take eight hours, Colossal and Mythical Eggs take 12 hours, and Ancient Eggs take 24 hours.[5] Gems may be used to speed up unlocking or can be used to purchase an egg. Eggs contain clones and gold, and ground eggs and gear eggs will also usually contain gems. Different levels of eggs contain different numbers of clones. When the player has a certain number of a clones, they can upgrade it, using gold, to increase its statistics. A player can hold a maximum of four eggs at one time; to open up egg slots, an egg will need to be opened. Every 24 hours, the player also has the chance to win a Gear Egg by claiming ten 'gears' from battle victories. Gear eggs are only allowed to be stacked twice and can be unlocked instantly. There are also Mystery Eggs in game which can be unlocked by moving ahead on the world map.

Tribes[edit]

Player can form and join tribes. Tribemates may engage in 1 vs 1 friendly brawls with one another, where the outcome of brawl does not affect trophies or awards eggs. Tribemates may also donate or request clones from one another every six hours. All tribemates are notified whenever another tribemate's brawl is showcased on BadTube.

Supernaturals[edit]

In Badland Brawl, every match starts with a random in-game Supernatural progress bar situated at the center top of the screen. Each time a Clone dies, or a Tower receives damage, the progress bar will fill a little bit. Once the bar is full, the Supernatural will unleash mayhem on the battlefield! Supernaturals come in two rarities: Primal and Evolved, with Evolved being the rarest. The rarer a supernatural event is, the less likely it is that the brawl will unlock it. As of March 2018 there are Supernaturals in game: Mini Bombs, Tower of Bombs, Bouncy Bomb, Bubble of Coins, Bubble of Gems, Meteor Rain, Quake, Bubble of Mana, Darkness and Blizzard.
