Law Ministry, Islamabad

He is also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan[2]. A native of Karak District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he is the son of the noted Pashto poet and scholar Pareshan Khattak.

Early life and education

Bahlol Khattak was born in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the son of Professor Pareshan Khattak (Ghami Jan Khattak), a Pashto poet,[3] educationist, historian, philosopher, and public intellectual who served as director of the Pashto Academy,[4] chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC),[5] and vice chancellor of Gomal University.[6] He was a recipient of national honors, including the Sitara-i-Imtiaz and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz.[7]

Bahlol Khattak completed his F.Sc. from the historic Islamia College Peshawar,[8] and obtained his LL.B. from Khyber Law College, University of Peshawar.

Legal career

Khattak began his professional legal career practicing at the Peshawar High Court. From 2006 to 2007, he served as Secretary General of the Peshawar High Court Bar[9] Association. In 2013, he was appointed Deputy attorney general of Pakistan, where he served until 2018, resigning from the post reportedly due to political differences.[10] He returned to the forefront of the legal fraternity in 2021, when he was elected president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association,[9] contesting under the banner of the Pakistan Pakistan Muslim League (N)-Nawaz (PML-N) Lawyers Forum.

Role in the Lawyers’ Movement

Bahlol Khattak actively participated in the Lawyers’ Movement (2007–2009), which sought the restoration of judicial independence after the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry.[8] At the time, he was serving as the Provincial President of a faction of the Pakistan Muslim League[11] in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, from which he resigned in solidarity with the movement.[12][13] His protest involvement led to his imprisonment during the course of the movement.[2]

Federal Service Tribunal

In 2024, Bahlol Khattak was appointed as a member (judicial) of the Federal Service Tribunal for a three-year term.[14] In this role, he adjudicates service-related matters involving federal government employees and contributes to institutional legal reform in Pakistan's civil service.
