Bakari Muya
Bakari Osman Muya (born September 22, 2000, better known as Famous Karii, is a Kenyan Internet personality, rapper and comedian who rose to fame on one of the biggest video sharing services TikTok, where he has over 1.3 million followers, making him one of the funniest users on the platform.
Early life and education
Muya was born in a small village near Nairobi, Kenya. He has eight siblings, five brothers and three sisters, and stayed with his single mother Hawa Mbalagwe. He was four years old when he moved with his family to the United States. His strict mother raised him in a Muslim household. He moved around a lot at a young age, going from Utica, New York to Columbus, Ohio, then finally settled in Lansing, Michigan in 2007.
He attended Sheridan Road middle school and Lansing Eastern for high school. After graduating, Muya enrolled at Olivet College, where he competed in soccer and track & field. He also took part in a club called BSU, which is a black student union that fights for rights when it comes to the community. After two years at Olivet College, Muya dropped out and moved to Los Angeles. He then studied improvisational theatre at The Groundlings.
Career
Muya's first gig was at Wharton Center in East Lansing under the name of Make Em Laugh Kari, which did not go well. His career suffered a slow start, as he was booed off stage several times, once even having a banana peel thrown at him. After those initial unsuccessful shows, Muya began entering comedy competitions throughout Michigan, and audience receptions of his performances eventually improved.
It took time for Muya to develop a unique comedic style. After an early period of attempting to imitate comedians like Kevin Hart, he found his own rhythm by delving into his insecurities and life experiences.
Muya started his career on TikTok in late June of 2020. Growing rapidly throughout the year, he was noticed by numerous brands and sponsors but turned down a lot of them. He is known to be one of the funniest creators on the platform. Muya has been featured on many podcasts and youtube videos, and word has it that he is now pursuing his career of becoming an actor. Sooner or later we will be seeing him on our top favorite shows. This young man has the whole world watching him, and I support what he does at a young age.
