The City Attorney is an appointed position of the city of Bakersfield, California. It is one of five positions mandated by the City Charter and one of two positions appointed by the City Council (the other is the City Manager). Similar to the City Manager, the Mayor may cast a vote on the appointing or removing of a candidate.[1]
The City Attorney is responsible for representing the city in all legal matters. He also initiates legal action against an individual or organization, but only at the direction of the City Council. He also gives legal opinions to the Mayor, City Council, and city governments. The attorney also reviews and approves the writing of all city ordinances, bonds, and contracts. Her office is located in City Hall North.[2][3]
