Balochistan Youth Action Committee (BYAC) (Urdu: بئاک) is a youth-driven organisation working in Balochistan, Pakistan.[5][6] The organisation is a not-for-profit registered entity in Pakistan.[7] The province of Balochistan borders Iran to the west, and Afghanistan to the northwest[8] and is the least developed province of Pakistan.[9] The region is marred with rigid terrain with limited infrastructure network.[10]
History[edit]
BYAC was created in 2020 in the aftermath of COVID-19. It is the sister organisation of the Global Shapers Community,[11] an initiative of the World Economic Forum.[12]
Mission[edit]
BYAC's mission is to work together with young people in Balochistan.[13] The organisation provides platform for local volunteers to work in co-designing indigenous solutions, such as the Reading Rooms Balochistan,[14] Climate Resilient Housing in Sohbatpur,[15] among others.[16]
Impact[edit]
BYAC has aided over 20,000 families with food supplies and has impacted over 400,000 people in last three years.[17] The group's co-founder, Sikander Bizenjo was recognised as one of the seven unsung heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic by Bill Gates.[18] The organisation has worked in multiple districts of Balochistan, including Khuzdar,[19] Gwadar,[20] Quetta,[21] Harnai,[22] among others.[23]
