CM Balram known as Balram Mattannur (born 1962) is an Indian film director, screenwriter, author, producer, and lyricist who works with Malayalam cinema.  He made his screenplay debut with Kaliyattam (1997). He won the Yuvasahiti Award and Darshanam Award for Children's literature, Muyalgramam in 1983.

Early life and family[edit]

Balram Mattannur was born in 1962, in Mattannur, Kannur district, Kerala as the second son of CM Janakiamma and CH Padmanabhan Nambiar. His father was an employee in the Indian railways. He has an elder brother, a younger sister and two younger brothers. He completed his schooling in Panoor. He was brought up in Manekara, Thalassery till the age of 28. His family moved to Mattannur in 1990. In 1993 he was married to KN Soumini. He has a daughter, Gayathri.
