The Balter Brewing Company is a brewery located in Currumbin, Queensland, founded in 2016.
History[edit]
Friends and co-founders Joel Parkinson, Mick Fanning, Bede Durbidge and Josh Kerr were surfing in Hawaii where discussions moved to set up a brewery in their Gold Coast hometown. A fake press release about a cologne for surfers called "Ocean Mist"[2] kicked off plans for the 750 square metre brewery in Currumbin which features a 35 hectolitre DME brewhouse, six 70 hectolitre tanks and a canning system from Cask Brewing Systems in Canada as well as a 500 litre pilot system from Melbourne-based Spark Brew Engineering[3] used for experimental beers.
Since starting in March 2016 Balter has won many awards, most notably Best International Pale Ale at the Australian International Beer Awards in 2017, Champion Medium Size Brewery and Best Newcomer.[4]
