Bam Barcena
Bam Barcena was born on March 13, 1977, and lived in San Diego, Los Angeles, New York and Okinawa, Japan. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Cal State San Marcos.
His background of skateboarding and DJing fueled his love for the culture of artistic freedom and expression.
Barcena's professional career began in 2001 in San Diego at the creative collective, Cleanercorp, with the Self Discovery Project. In between a string of projects, he co-founded Hellz Bellz[1], a women's streetwear brand, together with his wife, Lanie Alabanza-Barcena in 2005. He went on to create the contemporary streetwear brand, GPPR[2], inspired by all things underground, in 2010.
In 2015, Barcena co-conceptualized ROKIT[3], a brand that juxtaposes skateboarding and basketball culture.
Barcena's career includes design work and collaborations with Converse[4], Mizuno, Under Armour, Burton, Vans, Stussy, Reebok, Crooks N Castles, Ecko Unlimited Menswear, PRPS Denim, Los Angeles-based SHABBAAAA Sound System, and NIKE[3]. The Nike collaboration Kyrie Irving 5 x ROKIT[5] debuted during 2019 All-Star Fashion Week in Charlotte, North Carolina.
