Bangabandhu

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Bangabandhu (Bengali: বঙ্গবন্ধু, lit. 'Friend of Bengal') is the title of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh.

Nomenclature[edit]

On February 23, 1969, at a conference organized in honor of Sheikh Mujib in Dhaka's Race Course Maidan (now Suhrawardy Udyan) under the initiative of the then Central Student Struggle Council, the then student leader Daksu VP Tofail Ahmed confers title of “Bangabandhu” on Sheikh Mujib.[1][2][3]

Distortion[edit]

The current president of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Awami League advisory council member and ACC former commissioner Sahabuddin Chuppu said that after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on August 20, 1975, he was arrested and taken to jail for protesting Sheikh Mujib's murder. While physically torturing him, Major A. L. M. Fazlur Rahman used the word Bangabandhu as Bangabaltu (Bengal nut) and said, "Hey man, where is your your Bangabaltu?"[4]
