Barbara Pravi is a French singer-songwriter, born April 10, 1993 in Paris. She grew up in a family of artists, in the middle of books and music. Pravi is a Serbian word derived from prava meaning "Authentic", in homage to her paternal grandfather of Serbian origin.
Biography[edit]
It was in 2015 that Barbara Pravi was spotted by Capitol Records where she signed her very first contract.
She writes all of her lyrics. Her influences are mainly Barbara but also Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens, Françoise Hardy, Aragon.[1].
Her texts are therefore very anchored in reality, largely autobiographical. For example, "Deda" (grandfather in Serbian) which evokes the history of her family or "Chair" (on abortion).
Career[edit]
In January 2016, she performed On m'appelle Heidi [2], the French version of the credits of the film Heidi , a 2015 adaptation, released in France in 2016, of two famous children's novels.
She was then revealed by her role as Solange Duhamel in the musical show Un été 44 in November 2016 by performing texts written by Jean-Jacques Goldman, Charles Aznavour and Maxime Le Forestier. The lyricist and musical columnist Frédéric Zeitoun says of her: "there was a magical moment in this musical, at the end, a finale, it was not even a song, a requiem composed by Charles Aznavour with words by Claude Lemesle, which is called "Only Known to God," there was a voice coming on stage, this extremely frail young girl with a voice where she put everyone on the ground, it was really THE moment of this musical."[3]
She released her first single "Pas grandir" in 2017 which will be included in her eponymous debut EP released in 2017.
At the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, she provided 23 dates in the first part of the tour 55 Tour of Florent Pagny[4] with the highlight of a concert at the Accor Hotels Arena, in Paris, March 5 in front of 19,000 people.
At the end of 2018, wishing to regain control of the production and put more forward her love of French song to the detriment of the pop aspect which had dominated the first album[5], she breaks with her initial team and begins working with her new managerÉlodie Papillon Filleul.
In February 2020, she released a new 5-track EP "Reviens pour l'hiver" [6] of which she is author, composer and co-director. For these songs, she collaborated with Stan Neff, Lili Poe, Vincha, November Ultra and Wladimir Pariente[7].
Along with writing and composing her own songs, she writes for many other artists like Yannick Noah, Julie Zenatti, Chimène Badi, Jaden Smith, Angelina, etc. Barbara Pravi and Igit have together more than 135 millions views on YouTube with their compositions for Kids.
Eurovision[edit]
In 2019 and 2020, she co-wrote with Igit the songs Bim Bam Toi and I imagine, respectively presented at the Eurovision Song Contest Junior 2019 and 2020. Bim Bam Toi , performed by Carla, finished fifth in the ranking[8] and J'Imagine, performed by Valentina, wins the 2020 competition with 200 points[9] at the head of both the professional jury and the popular jury[10]. Bim Bam Toi, covered millions of times on Tik Tok, allowed them to win the first golden Tik Tok in history[11].
In 2020, she participates in the show Eurovision France, it's you who decides which selects the French artist for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song Voilà, co-written and composed with Igit[12].
Commitments[edit]
Barbara Pravi is very present to defend the cause of violence against women, having herself been confronted with domestic violence[13], and is strongly committed to women's rights. She recorded within a group of 39 women the title "Debout les femmes", hymn of the Women's Liberation Movement[14]. From 2018 to 2020, on March 8, she uploaded a video in which she adapted or created a title promoting the rights and autonomy of women: in 2018, she rewrote a version of the song Kid by Eddy de Pretto[15]; in 2019, it is a female version of Notes pour trop tard by Orelsan that she uploaded by mixing it with her title Malamour (the rights generated being donated to the association "La Maison des Femmes")[16]; in 2020, she writes a strong title, Chair, which talks about abortion[17].
In 2019, rapper Black M asks her to be the voice of a woman abused by his companion in his title "Narcissistic Pervert". The same year, the École de management de Lyon Business school invites her to talk about her career, and how she was able to find self-confidence, within the framework of a TEDx [18]
On Instagram, she regularly publishes “Women's Stories” since 2020, to humorously highlight women somewhat forgotten in history (Rosemary Kennedy, Zelda Sayre-Fitzgerald, Dido Belle...)
.
