From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Barbie Kardashian, a trans woman living in Limerick, Ireland, has been imprisoned with cisgender women since 2020, provoking controversy. In 2022, she was convicted of threatening to torture and kill her mother in 2020. In 2023, she was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.

Barbie Kardashian

Barbie Kardashian (born in 2001) is a trans woman in Limerick in the Republic of Ireland.[1][2][3] She changed her name by deed poll and in 2020 was granted a gender recognition certificate by the Department of Social Protection but has not had gender-affirming surgery.[2][3][1]

Legal action

On 24 September 2020, Kardashian was arrested in Limerick and within days remanded in custody to the women's section of Limerick Prison. On 9 May 2022 at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court, she was convicted of threatening to torture, rape and murder her mother following a four-day trial.[2][3] On 16 March 2023, she was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.[1][2][3] Judge Tom O'Donnell described it as one of the most complex cases he has dealt with in his career on the benches of the District and Circuit Court in Limerick.[3]

Response

On 1 October 2020, a Change.org user started a petition to remove Kardashian from the women's section of the prison, gaining over 7,000 signatures.[citation needed] On 21 March 2023, a journalist described Kardashian to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar as "a violent biological male with a penis", then asked him if he believes that Kardashian is a woman.[1] Varadkar did not answer that, other than by saying he needs to find out more about the case.[1] The journalist asked Varadkar if he thinks "violent biological men" should be sent to women's prisons, to which he said they should not.[1] Varadkar said that Kardashian should be dealt with in a similar way as Isla Bryson, a trans woman convicted of raping two women in Scotland who was sent to a women's prison before being moved to a men's prison.[1]
