Barcelona Drone Center

Barcelona Drone Center is a civilian UAV Hub that serves the drone community by hosting drone developments, testings and demonstrations. The center counts with an official segregated airspace of 25 km2 (9.7 sq mi) and runway. It is a drone test site for the European Space Agency - Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC).[1] It is located 65 km from de center of Barcelona, Catalonia.

Facilities[edit]

Drone airfield[edit]

The centre occupies an area of 14 ha (35 acres), 4 ha (9.9 acres) of which correspond to the airfield. The main characteristics of the field are:

  • Remote and unpopulated area, one hour away from Barcelona International Airport
  • High and flat field
  • Primary runway 350 m long and 20 m wide
  • Free of obstacles in all directions
  • Good atmospheric conditions all year long

Airspace[edit]

Barcelona Drone Center Test Site has its own segregated airspace (TSA), recently approved by Spanish Airspace Authorities. The name of the field is TSA-31 CTC-MOIA, with an area of 2,500 ha (6,200 acres) and a maximum ceiling of 4,100 ft ASL.[2] The coordinates of the four corners of the airspace:

  • 414845N 0020840E,
  • 414940N 0021200E,
  • 414610N 0021230E,
  • 414600N 0021000E

It is one of the 10 segregated air spaces in the world devoted to drones.

Main Building[edit]

The bioclimatic building and airfield include he following facilities: 140,000 m2 (170,000 sq yd) outdoor surface for installing remote sensing targets, +50 geodetic markers, offices, workshop, mechanical and electronic Lab, hangar, flight and control center, camera calibration targets, meeting room, specialized library, CATUAV drone consultant's office and warehouse.
