Barry Habib (born January 15, 1960) is an American entrepreneur known for his expertise in the mortgage and housing industries. He is the founder and CEO of Highway, a company providing tools and insights for mortgage professionals. Habib has been recognized for his contributions to mortgage market forecasting, having established multiple platforms that assist professional in interpreting financial markets and trends. [1][2][3]
Early life and education
Habib was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York, to Sephardic Jewish immigrants from Turkey. His father worked as an international journalist before passing away when Habib was 11 years old. Growing up in a financially difficult environment, Habib initially pursued interests in athletics and music. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Baruch College in New York City.[4]
Career
Habib began his career in the mortgage industry in 1986. Over the course of 24 years, he originated more than $2 billion in personal mortgage production, becoming one of the top mortgage originators in the United States. In 1989, he founded Certified Mortgage Associates, which he successfully operated until its eventual sale. [1]
In the early 2000s, Habib founded the Mortgage Market Guide, a platform designed to assist mortgage professionals in forecasting mortgage rates and interpreting bond market activity. After selling this company, Habib founded MBS Highway, a similar platform offering daily market insights and tools for professionals in the mortgage industry. MBS Highway has become a leading resource for financial and mortgage professionals seeking real-time information on market trends. [1]
In 2020, Habib created the Certified Mortgage Advisor (CMA) course, aimed at advancing the knowledge and expertise of mortgage professionals.[5]
Expansion and acquisitions
In November 2022, MBS Highway expanded its operations by acquiring ListReports, a real estate data and marketing platform. Following this acquisition, MBS Highway, the CMA course, and ListReports were consolidated under the parent brand name "Highway" with Habib continuing to serve as the company's CEO.[6]
Entertainment industry involvement
In addition to his work in the mortgage industry, Habib has been involved in the entertainment sector. He served as the lead producer and managing partner of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages," which received five Tony Award nominations. In 2012, Rock of Ages and was adapted into a feature film, with Habib making a cameo appearance.[7] Habib also produced the Criss Angel show "Mindfreak" at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. [8]

Habib is a frequent commentator on financial news programs, including appearances on CNBC and Fox, where he shares his insights on the mortgage and housing markets. He has also been a professional speaker for over two decades, discussing financial markets and mortgage trends at industry events. [7]

Habib has been recognized with numerous awards throughout his career. In 2019, he was named Mortgage Professional of the Year. He has also received the Crystal Ball Award three times from Zillow and Pulsenomics for making the most accurate real estate forecasts among a group of 150 top economists in the United States.
