The school was founded in 1947, the year of India's independence, because of the growing educational needs of the Basirhat area. Initially, it functioned as a secondary school and was later upgraded to the higher secondary level (up to Class XII). The school is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) for the Madhyamik examination and to the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) for the Higher Secondary examination. The school has been administered by the Department of Education, Government of West Bengal since its inception, and is one of the premier publicly administered educational institutions in North 24 Parganas district.
