Bassano Vaccarini (August 1914 – 7 April 2002) was an Italian sculptor, theatre director and academic who worked in Brazil.
Life[edit]
Vaccarini was born in San Colombano al Lambro, Italy. He arrived in Brazil after World War II and chose Altinópolis for his workshop in 1980. Praça das Esculturas (Sculpture Square), which covers 7,000 square metres (75,000 sq ft) at the highest point of the city, houses 42 of Vaccarini's works. The sculpture park opened in 1992.[1][2]
Besides being a professor of Visual Arts at the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism, University of São Paulo, and the Universidade de Ribeirão Preto (in Ribeirão Preto, where he lived), he was the costume designer for the 1952 film Sai da frente, the set designer for the 1975 film based on the novel A Carne, and director of the Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia.
Vaccarini and R. F. Lucchetti produced a short film titled Abstrações - Estudo nº 1 in 1960, listed among the 100 best animated Brazilian films, and another titled Fantasmagóricas in 1961.[3] [4]
He died in 2002 in Altinópolis.
