Batti Gul Meter Chalu is an upcoming Indian comedy-drama written by Vipul K Rawal[1] and directed by Shree Narayan Singh. It stars Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Yami Gautam in lead roles[2][3] It is produced by Prernaa Arora of KriArj Entertainment and Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banner of T-Series and Nishant Pitti of EaseMyTrip .[4] Principal photography began in February 2018 and the film is scheduled for release on 31 August 2018.[5][6]

Development and casting[edit]
After Shahid Kapoor read the script and agreed to do the film, producer Prerna Arora roped in director Shree Narayan Singh to helm the film.[1] The official announcement of the film was made in October 2017.[8] According to Singh, The film has a social theme and was centered on escalating electricity bill prices in India.[9] The makers moved to actresses like Katrina Kaif,[10] Vaani Kapoor,[11] Sonakshi Sinha[12] and Ileana D'Cruz[13] to play the lead role. However, in January 2018, the makers confirmed Shraddha Kapoor[14] to be the lead actress in the film whereas Yami Gautam will be seen in a supporting role as a lawyer alongside Shahid Kapoor.[15]
Principal photography[edit]
The filming began in February 2018.[16] The film will be shot extensively in locations like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Tehri, Mussoorie, Nainital, New Delhi and Mumbai. The filming is scheduled to culminate within May 2018.[17] Shahid Kapoor plays the role of a Garhwali lawyer from Uttarakhand. He also learnt the Garhwali accent for shooting the film. Shraddha, on the other hand plays Lalita Nautiyal a.k.a "Nauti", a local girl of Dehradun.[18] Yami Gautam, who plays the second lead in the film, will feature as a lawyer from New Delhi took help of Hindi Literature to prepare for her role.[19]
The first schedule of the film started in February 2018 and finished within two weeks in Tehri.[20] The second schedule of the film started in the last week of February in Uttarakhand.[21]
Marketing and release[edit]
The first look poster and teaser of the film was released by Shahid Kapoor on his twitter handle on 20 October 2017.[22] The principal photography began in February 2018 and will finish in May 2018. The Official Poster of the film will be released on 31 June 2018.[23] The film is to be released on 31 August 2018.
Soundtrack[edit]
The music rights of the film are acquired by T-Series.[24]
