The Battle of Ash-Shihr was a conflict between the Ottoman admiral Sefer Reis and Portuguese forces that arrived at the port of Ash-Shihr in 1531.[1][2]
In 1530 Mustafa Bey and Sefer Reis arrived at the port of Ash-Shihr in Yemen.[1] The Ottomans advised the Emir of Ash-Shihr, Badr, to not submit to the Portuguese and left cannons and 100 levends with the Emir of Ash-Shihr.[1] Mustafa Bey left Ash-Shihr in December 1530 while Sefer Reis remained with Badr.[1] A Portuguese force of 9 sail led by Manoel de Vasconcellos immediately arrived at the port of Ash-Shihr, however Sefer Reis defeated and drove out the Portuguese forces.[3]
