The battle of Krasnohorivka is an ongoing military engagement between Russian and Ukrainian forces that began on 8 March as part of the Battle of Donbas of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Background[edit]

The city itself is close to the city of Donetsk, the capital of the Russian-backed Donetsk People's Republic since 2014. Controlled by Ukrainians, it became major stronghoud of Ukrainian army in that sector alongside Marinka and Avdiivka. Despite that, it wasn't intensively attacked by Russian ground forces since the invasion started.

Battle[edit]

On July 18, to come closer to the city, Russians attacked the Krasnohorivka Coal Mine with at least 7 tanks and captured it. Ukrainian sources claimed they heavyly shelled Russians positions after retreat inflicting big damage to them.[1] Ukrainian sources claimed on July 21 they inflicted Russians big casualties by using cluster weapons, given to them by the US.[2]
