The battle of Shahi Tibbi was a skirmish fought alongside Battle of Sarsa between the Khalsa and Mughal Empire. During the Battle of Anandpur(1704), the hill kings and Mughals swore an oath that if the Sikhs leave the fort, they will never be attacked again or bothered. But they soon betrayed the Sikhs on December 21st 1704 when Guru Ji and his Sikhs were crossing the Sarsa river. It was a night with heavy rain which made it tough for the Sikhs to cross the river. The Mughals along with the hill kings went their to try and get rid of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, breaking their oaths. 400 soldiers were there, trying to survive the deadly attack from an army of around 12,000 Mughals. While Sikhs were crossing the Sarsa river, Bhai Jiwan Singh, Bhai Udai Singh,Sahibzada Ajit Singh and 47 other sikhs resisted the mughal army for a long time, until there was 1 sikh standing. This battle killed Bhai Jiwan Singh and Bhai Udai Singh, but it was a great last stand as Mughals suffered a high number of casualties. On the other hand in the Battle of Sarsa, the 2 Chotte sahibzaade and Guru Sahib's mom were seperated and soon killed. This all lead to the aftermath of the great battle of Chamkaur, where 40 sikhs defeated the high army of 1 million Mughals. [2]

Gurdwara Sri Tibbi Sahib is made in the location the battle was fought in order to remember the great ones who sacrificed their lives for future generations.

Notes[edit]

  1. "Despite promising Guru Gobind Singh safe passage after the siege of Anandpur, Mughal General Wazir Khan pursued the survivors. At Shahi Tibbi, Jiwan Singh was killed in a rear- guard action. The Sikhs were then destroyed while crossing the Sarsa, with the Guru’s two younger sons captured and later murdered. Gobind was defeated next day at Chamkaur (21 December 1704)."[1]
