The battle of Tamish is one of the most difficult fragments of the history of the war in Abkhazia. On July 2–11, 1993, the Georgian side lost about 250 fighters here - the reason was a 500-man landing party suddenly poured in by the enemy.

Battle[edit]

During the war in Abkhazia 1992–1993, on July 2, 1993, at 05:00, the Abkhazians side launched a naval landing with a Russian warships near the town of Tamish. The landing consisted of 600 people. At dawn, Georgian units located in Tamish, Labra and Zemo Kintkh received the first blow.

"Dusheti" , "Savnabada" and "Avaza" battalions suffered significant losses. The Georgian side lost about 150-300 fighters as a result of several days of fighting. Despite the great loss, the Georgian soldiers were able to repulse the landing and maintain their positions.
