The Battle of Thull Mardu is the major battle between the Angaraks and the Western Powers in during the Belgariad by David Eddings. It is described in the fifth book in the series; Enchanter's End Game.
The basic strategy of the west is to secure the Thullish city of Thull Mardu which is located on an island in central Mishrac ak Thull so that the Cherek fleet can get through to the Sea of the East and sink the ships of the Mallorean army to stop them from landing on the western continent and threatening the Kingdoms of the West
As the Western Powers make their move, the Malloreans too respond from the North, with a number of Nadraks marching with them and the Murgos from the South. The Western Powers secure the city and the island (the same thing) and the Cherek fleet gets through and thus the main strategic goal is achieved. Later the Nadraks turn against their Angarak brethren and create a corridor so that the Western Army can withdraw / retreat.
In a conversation with 'Zakath the Emperor of Mallorea it emerges that the west need not have engaged at Thull Mardu because in fact the Malloreans and Murgos were moving against each other. Having said that limiting the number of Malloreans arriving on the continent did have strategic value and would have been even more important had Torak won and driven west as he had done 500 years previously in an invasion that saw the wholesale destruction of Drasnia, the protracted siege of the Algarian Stronghold and the final Battle of Vo Mimbre.
