Bazirite

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Bazirite is a mineral found uniquely in the granite of Rockall Islet.

History

James Fisher at Rockall

Rockall Islet was formed from the remains of an eroded volcano. James Fisher, a civilian naturalist and former Royal Marine, was tasked with collecting rock samples by the British Geological Society and landed there on 18 September 1955, three days after arriving at the islet aboard the Royal Navy survey ship, HMS Vidal.

However, it was only years later that geologists studying Rockall granite would discover Bazirite, which is not found anywhere else in the world so far.
