Behrouz Jamali (Persian: بهروز جمالی) is a tombak player, music producer and documentary maker, based in the United States.

Life[edit]

Behrouz Jamali was born in Tabriz and studied Persian classical music and tombak with Mohammad Akhavan (Tombak), Behrouz Afshari. Jamali also studied Western Classical music under violinist Zaven Yedigarian.[1]

Career in the US[edit]

Jamali moved to the United States in 2000 and continued his career as a tombak player, sound engineer and producer. He has shared the stage with various masters of Persian music in their concerts in DC area including Kayhan Kalhor[2][3]

Jamali also has had tombak masterclasses at Juilliard School of Music.[4]

Jamali has been a member of Carnegie Mellon University's Center for Iranian Music (CFIM). [5]

Since 2019 Jamali started to make music documentaries about American, Russian and Persian musicians including Lura Johnson, Gilan Akbar, Chris Gekker, Solomon Volkov, Kazem Davoodian, Esmail Tehrani, etc.
