Belagavi city is located in the north-western part of Karnataka. It is the district headquarters of Belagavi district. The oldest name of Belagavi was Belavala Nadu. Later it changed to Venugram and finally Belagavi.
Education
Belagavi is well known for education, having reputed pre-university, degree and engineering colleges. Visvesvaraya Technological University and Rani Channamma University are also located in Belagavi.
Demographics
As of 2011[update] India census,[1] Belagavi had a population of 4,88,157. Out of which 50.3% i.e. 2,45,545 were males and 49.7% i.e. 2,42,612 were females.
