Belagavi city is located in the north-western part of Karnataka. It is the district headquarter of Belagavi district. The oldest name of Belagavi was Belavala Nadu. Later it changed to Venugram and finally Belagavi.

Education[edit]

Belagavi is well known city for education by having reputed pre-university, degree and engineering colleges. Visvesvaraya Technological University and Rani Channamma University are also located in Belagavi.

Demographics[edit]

As of 2011 India census,[1] Belagavi had a population of 4,88,157. Out of which 50.3% i.e. 2,45,545 were males and 49.7% i.e. 2,42,612 were females.
