The Belfast Bulls were formed in 2002.[1] The Bulls won their first four matches. Although playing 8-a-side rules for the 2003 season, it was clear that they had a base to improve upon and to progress to the 11-a-side league.[original research?]

The team's rookie (11-a-side) season was 2004, where they progressed to the play-offs for the Shamrock Bowl.[citation needed]

In 2005, they reached the final of the Shamrock Bowl.[2] They lost the final to Dublin Rebels, on a scoreline of 26–19.[1]

They competed well in 2006, despite losing some experienced players.[tone] Another Belfast-based team, the Belfast Trojans, was also formed in 2006.[3]

The Belfast Bulls folded at the end of the 2008 season.[1]
