From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Ben Brooks is an American investor who is responsible for funding and managing some of the largest companies in several industries along with creating the first ever stock index based on North Carolina[1]. Brooks began his investment career as an Investment Adviser with WheatFirst Securities[2]. After seven years, Brooks took over as Regional Manager of Marion Bass Securities in 1997[3][4]. Brooks moved up rapidly to become Director of Investment Banking and subsequently CEO of the firm at 38 years old[2]. Along the way, Brooks participated in or led many local underwritings including Syquest, Crescent State Bank and First Carolina Bank. In 2001, Brooks negotiated the sale of Marion Bass Securities to Jospephthal & Co., which is today Oppenheimer & Co. [5]

Building upon this, Brooks founded Southern Capitol Ventures in 2000[4]. The firm became one of the leading venture funds in the United States[5]. He first funded three IPOs which were ChannelAdvisor, SquareOne Bank and Motricity. Subsequently, he funded several companies which later became industry leaders such as WeddingWire, which developed into one of the largest online wedding platforms.

In August 2016, Brooks accepted the role of leading Capital Investment Companies, one of the largest Independent Broker-Dealers in the Southeast[5]. As President, Brooks has brought many top tier Investment Professionals to the company and Capital Investment Companies has become known as an industry leader across the country[6].

In 2017, Brooks created the Carolinas Index, a proxy for public company performance in North and South Carolina. The Carolinas Index is now tracked by analysts and investors alike. The index tracks the performance of the 75 largest companies in NC and SC on an equal weighted basis. The index is particularly important in North Carolina given its rich banking history and rapid growth in Technology and Life Sciences.[1]
