Benedict Cumberbatch Must Die is a comedy play written by Abby Howells.[1][2] It will have its world premiere at BATS Theatre, Wellington, New Zealand on June 19, 2014.[3] The play's main focus is the characters' obsession to actor Benedict Cumberbatch. The play, intended to be a "love letter" to the actor, also tackles pop culture, loneliness, sharing fears and desires, the struggle of the creative process, and friendship.[4]

The idea for the play came about when Howells, Schrader and McNaughton discovered that they share a “deep passion” for actor Benedict Cumberbatch.
