Bengio Park is a 1.75-acre (0.71 ha) public green space at the southeast edge of downtown Bellevue, United States. The park sits atop a landscaped lid over Sound Transit’s Downtown Bellevue light-rail tunnel portal, providing walking paths, seating areas, and native plantings. It was completed in late 2024 and formally dedicated as “Bengio Park” in 2025 to honor deep-learning pioneer Yoshua Bengio.[1][2][3]
History
Construction of the East Link (2 Line) tunnel left a rectangular lid at Main Street and 112th Avenue SE earmarked for parkland. After structural works finished, the 1.75‑acre deck was landscaped and transferred to Bellevue Parks & Community Services in late 2024.[1]
Naming
Following a public survey and Board review, the name “Bengio Park” is adopted to recognize Bengio’s contributions to artificial‑intelligence research.[1][2]
Features
- Paths: Curving concrete walks connect Main Street with 112th Avenue SE and East Main light‑rail station.[1]
