Benjamin Ribić (Travnik, July 19, 2000) is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian violinist and composer.[1]
He started playing violin at the age of 9 in the Primary Music School in Travnik (BiH). After graduating from Primary Music School, he enrolled in the High Music School in Zenica. At the age of 14, he played in Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany. As a violinist, he participated in seminars and masterclasses with eminent pedagogues and soloists: Vladimir Markovic (Serbia), Marija Rajkovic (Serbia), YeonJu Yeong (South Korea), Jovan Bogosavljevic (Serbia), Violeta Smailovic-Huart (France) [2]
At a very young age, he started to compose and analyze works by violinist/composers throughout history such as Paganini, Kreisler, Wieniawski, Ysaÿe. As a composer, in addition to his primary focus on contributing to the contemporary violin repertoire and performing techniques, he writes for various instruments and ensembles. Inspired by the pioneers of American minimalism and Arvo Pärt's "sacral minimalism" and studying the deepest human feelings and states of mind, he builds a unique style, and critics have described his music as "purity and beauty born of simplicity" and "extremely meditative and intimate" which, as such, represents a real challenge for the performer, but also for the listener.[2]
He invented MPS (Mutant;PlugSystem), a contemporary functional system for preparation of the Violin, and MPSN (Mutant;PlugSystemNotation), notograph symbols. His first score, '' Three pieces for solo violin '' was published in October 2020 in collaboration with the Regional Museum of Travnik. Works by Benjamin Ribić are exclusively published by the world-famous publishing house Universal Edition in Vienna. He is General Director and Founder of International String Festival ‘’Mondo Degli Archi Fest‘’ which is held in East Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina). He is a violin student at the Music Academy of the University of East Sarajevo in the class of the famous Serbian violinist and pedagogue, Jovan Bogosavljević.[1]
