Benjamin Smith (August 31, 1997) is a British Green Politician and Former Deputy Leader of the Wales Green Party.[1][2]

Political Career[edit]

Smith has stood for election as a Green candidate a number of times. First as a council candidate in 2017, and later as the MP candidate for the Cardiff Central Constituency the same year. He then served as Deputy Leader of the Wales Green Party between 2017-18.

Smith left Wales in 2019, and stood as a Council Candidate in the 2019 Local Elections for North Surrey Green Party. Smith contested the Runnymede and Weybridge Constituency in the 2019 General Election, increasing the vote share and finishing fourth.

Smith was selected as candidate for Merton Green Party in the 2022 Local Elections.

He previously served as the Wales Young Greens Press Officer, before resigning after his election to Deputy Leader. He has previously been a committee member of the Student Assembly Against Austerity, as well as volunteering with several other political campaigns.

Smith remains the youngest person to have served as a Deputy Leader of any UK political party. Following in the path of Amelia Womack who was elected as Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales.

Personal Life[edit]

Smith is the eldest of three brothers. He was born in York, before moving to Plymouth where he became involved in Politics. He studied at St Boniface's Catholic College and City College Plymouth. Before moving to Cardiff to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Since graduating he has worked on a number of Theatre Productions, in a variety of backstage capacities. He is a supporter of Plymouth Argyle Football Club. He currently resides in London.
