Born 11 January 1978, Benny Mayengani is an award winning traditional Xitsonga singer, with seven studio albums.[1] [2]He draws inspiration from the late disco icon, Peta Teanet. Apart from his music career, Mayengani is actively involved in politics and is currently a PR councillor deployed by the Economic Freedom Fighters in the City of Tshwane. [2]Juggling politics and music has been a cause of all worries for him since not everyone in the Xitsonga music industry is, of necessity an EFF supporter. Mayengani has claimed that those who are opposed to him politically in the music industry are blocking his success and even went on to say "politics is killing my career".[3] He broke into the music industry following the release of his debut album Tiba Ben[4] in 2011.[5] His second offering titled Dokodela Mayengani sparked controversy with people in general concluding that he was taking a swipe at fellow Xitsonga artist, Thomas Chauke who had just received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Venda.[6][7]

Mayengani has toured the US to render his musical performance there.[8][9] In one of his trips to the US, he had been spotted by the Economic Freedom Fighters' national chairman Dali Mpofu who wished him well.[10] He has also toured Hong Kong.[11] During one of his performances, the EFF President Julius Malema and Deputy Floyd Shivambu joined and danced along with Mayengani.[12]
