Benowa High: The Podcast is a student operated podcast program produced from students attending Benowa State High School. It is hosted by two year ten students, Thomas and Callum and contains many segments with different hosts assigned to each one. The show is uploaded to popular streaming platforms such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify Podcasts and iHeartRadio fortnightly.
History[edit]
Benowa High: The Podcast was founded in June 2020 by a junior captain of Benowa State High School and began production soon after in July.
On August 25, the first episode was released featuring all four of the junior captains and the school's chaplain as a special guest.
In a bonus episode uploaded in December 2020, Theo announced he would not be returning in 2021.
In January 2021, the show announced on their social media that they will return for a second season.[1]
In February 2021, the first episode of season two was released with the announcement that two new team members would be joining the show., Tamika & Sacha
After only 4 episodes of season two, on 2 May 2021, a post on the shows Instagram confirmed that there would be a break in production due to a 'review' of the programming[1]
In June 2021, a month after the suspension of production, a post on social media confirmed that there would be a season three starting on June 15.[1]
The first episode of season three saw a complete reconstruction of the shows segments and programming. Four new segments were bought into play with some of the original ones not returning.
Segments[edit]
- Benowa Environmental: each episode Alexis & Rani provide an update on how to keep the environment safe and actions students can take to become more eco-friendly.
- Arts @ Benowa: a news segment presented by Ruby & Tamika containing all the news articles from the performing arts department.
- Redback News: an audio version of the weekly news video played through parade and personal development classes each week, hosted by Levi & Remi.
- Guess Who (Teacher Edition): facts are given to two contestants and they have to discuss who they think is being described, hosted by Sacha.
- Guest Interview: every episode, show hosts, Thomas & Callum interview a special guest (or two).
Past Segments[edit]
- 21 Questions: a game previously played with every guest who appeared on the show. The guest would have 60 seconds to answer 21 questions about their personal opinions.
- The Price is Tight: items sold at the school tuckshop would be name and two players would face off and guess the price. The first player to guess three items correctly wins.
- Head 2 Head: two players would compete in a game of trivia about Benowa State High School. The winner would be the person with the most correct responses.
- 60 Second Science (previously known as STEM update): delivered by Tom, a new science fact would be told each episode.
- Did You Know?: a game of fun and interesting facts, completely non-school related.
- Sports @ Benowa: news segment dedicated only to the schools sport department, delivered by Rani.
- Around The Grounds: Alexis would travel the school yard to gather responses from students.
