Bentley B2
The Bentley B2 is a 2-door, 2+2 coupé developed and manufactured by Bentley Motors and Pininfarina for the royal family of Brunei. It was a reskinned Bentley Continental R and only 13 were made during 1994 to 1995.[1][not in citation given]
Development
Designed and built by Pininfarina’s Studi E Ricerche branch, the B2 was based on the Bentley Continental R under the request of the Brunei royal family. The engine was the 6.75L turbocharged Bentley V8, the same engine used in the Continental R.[2][not in citation given] 13 were made, with the known ones being yellow, charcoal, green, blue, and black. Certain B2 examples had interiors that matched with the exterior colour and Blackout specifications, which is that the entire car had to be black, with black wheels, black headlights and tailights, and a black interior.
Arrival
Upon the 13 B2s landing in Brunei, they were sent to the garage complex. The B2s were test driven each on the roads, with one of the people who had driven it being Prince Hakeem, who is the son of Jefri Bolkiah. He complained about one of the steering wheels in one of the B2s being unstraightened, following an urgent phone call from one of the workers to Paolo Garella, who headed the development of the B2. When Hakeem drove the first B2, he mentioned that the ride quality felt ‘too bulky and noisy’. Due to this, all the interiors of the B2’s were retrofitted with the interior of the Bentley B3, another one-off developed at the same time with the B2.[3][not in citation given][4]
