Bernd Reichart (born 1974)[1] is a German businessman.[2] In 2019, he was appointed chief executive officer (CEO) of RTL Deutschland, a subsidiary of the RTL Group and one of the major businesses of Bertelsmann.[3] Previously, Reichart held management positions at the German TV channel VOX and the Spanish media company Atresmedia.[4]
Education[edit]
Reichart studied sports at the University of Konstanz and the University of Salamanca. English studies at the University of North Carolina followed. Reichart initially wanted to become a teacher and completed his education with a state examination in 2001.[2]
Career[edit]
Reichart began his career in sports marketing. He initially worked for UFA Sports (later becoming Sportfive) in Hamburg in 2001, and moved to Madrid two years later. There, he was responsible for implementing the sponsorship of Real Madrid on behalf of the client Siemens Mobile, among other things.[2]
In 2004, Reichart moved to Grupo Antena 3 (now Atresmedia), where he was initially responsible for the financial communications of the listed company. In 2007, he was appointed to the management board, being responsible for key TV channels such as Neox, Nova, and Nitro.[5]
Reichart returned to Germany in 2013. He took over the management of VOX, a private TV station of RTL Deutschland.[6] Besides his position as managing director, he was executive producer of Club der roten Bänder, for example. The first dramedy television series produced by VOX won the International Emmy Kids Award.[7][8]
As the CEO of VOX, Reichart became a member of the board of directors of RTL Deutschland, too. In 2019, he was appointed chief executive officer of the company.[9] Under his leadership, the company modernized its strategy, content, and external image;[10] he increasingly focused on journalistic formats and the core RTL brand.[11] Additionally, Reichart became a member of the group management committees of both the RTL Group and Bertelsmann.[12][13] In 2021, he also took over the chairmanship of the Bertelsmann Content Alliance, which coordinates Bertelsmann's content businesses in Germany.
