Bernio Enzo Verhagen (born 13 February 1994) is a Dutch amateur football player. On 18 August 2020, Bernio Verhagen pleaded guilty to fraud and forgery after scamming professional football teams in South Africa, Chile, Denmark and Transnistria into offering him a professional football contract.[1].
Bernio Verhagen has been compared to the infamous footballer Carlos Kaiser (footballer)[2][3]. Bernio Verhagen has also been described as a "ghost footballer"[4].
A Danish documentary about Bernio Verhagen and his complicated fraud has been produced by TV 2[5].

Early career[edit]
Bernio Verhagen was a youth player at Willem II which is a club in the Netherlands[6].
Dinamo-Auto Tiraspo[edit]
In February 2019, Bernio Verhagen signed a contract with Dinamo-Auto Tiraspol in Moldova even though Bernio Verhagen was an amateur football player. Bernio Verhagen never played any matches for Dinamo-Auto Tiraspo[7].
Cape Town City FC[edit]
After Bernio Verhagen's stay with Dinamo-Auto Tiraspo, Bernio Verhagen moved to Cape Town City in South Africa in July 2019. However, Bernio Verhagen only stayed with the club for approximately one month. Bernio Verhagen never played any matches for Cape Town City[8].
Cape Town City was recommended to sign Bernio Verhagen by a person who claimed to be the famous Dutch agent Mo Sinouh from Stellar Group[9].
Audax Italiano[edit]
Bernio Verhagen joined Audax Italiano in August 2019. Bernio Verhagen did not play any matches for the chilean club Audax Italiano and only stayed with the club for one month. Bernio Verhagen has claimed that he was the target of racism by team members at the club[10].
In connection with signing Bernio Verhagen, Audax Italiano was informed that they could resell Bernio Verhagen to a Chinese club for 2 million dollars[11].
Viborg FF[edit]
On 5 November 2019, Viborg FF presented Bernio Verhagen as a new player. Viborg's sporting director Jesper Fredberg said publicly that Bernio Verhagen was an extremely fast and agresive player[12]. After Bernio Verhagen had trained with the first team at Viborg FF once, the club decided that Bernio Verhagen should train on his own[13]. In November 2019, Viborg FF admitted that they had never seen Bernio Verhagen play before signing him[14]. On 26 November 2019, Viborg FF stated in a press release that the club had cancelled the contract with Bernio Verhagen by mutual agreement and that the club had reported the matter to the Danish police[15]. Similar to Cape Town City FC, Viborg FF was approached by a person who claimed to be Mo Sinouh from Stellar Group. Furthermore, Viborg FF had been informed that Bernio Verhagen could be resold after a short period of time to a Chinese club with a large profit[16]. On 27 November 2019, Bernio Verhagen was arrested by the Danish police on suspicion of assaulting and robbing multiple people, including his girl friend, and was charged by the Danish Police with fraud on 3 December 2019[17]
Bernio Verhagen did not play any matches during his time with Viborg FF.
Private life[edit]
Bernie Verhagen is a Dutch citizen. Bernio Verhagen has a daughter in Denmark[18]
On 24 June 2020, Bernio Verhagen was convicted for violence and robbery and was sent to jail for one year and 3 months and will be deported from Denmark[19]
